OCD Consultations

OCD Consultations for Clinicians

Practical, evidence-based consultation for therapists treating OCD and related disorders.

Treating OCD can be challenging—even for experienced clinicians.

Maybe you're working with a client whose compulsions aren't obvious. Maybe you're unsure whether you're providing reassurance. Maybe you've developed an ERP hierarchy but aren't sure whether you're targeting the right fear. Or maybe treatment simply isn't moving forward and you're not sure why.

You don't have to figure it out alone.

I provide individual clinical consultation for mental health professionals who want support conceptualizing OCD cases, developing effective ERP interventions, and strengthening their confidence using evidence-based treatment.

Complete the brief consultation request form here and I'll follow up with available times and next steps.

What can we work on?

Consultation is focused on the clinical questions that come up when you're actually treating OCD.

We might work together on:

  • Case conceptualization — identifying the OCD cycle and understanding what is maintaining symptoms

  • Compulsions and avoidance — recognizing obvious and subtle compulsions, including mental rituals and reassurance seeking

  • ERP planning — developing exposures that target the underlying fear rather than simply creating a hierarchy of uncomfortable situations

  • Treatment obstacles — figuring out what to do when a client understands ERP but isn't progressing

  • Reassurance and accommodation — identifying when reassurance or therapist behaviors may be inadvertently maintaining OCD

  • Complex presentations — working through cases involving health anxiety, relationship OCD, scrupulosity, perfectionism, BDD, or other overlapping concerns

  • Differential conceptualization — thinking through OCD versus other anxiety-related or behavioral presentations

  • Treatment decisions — getting another perspective when you're unsure what the next clinical step should be

The goal isn't simply to tell you what to do with one client.

It's to help you understand the clinical reasoning behind the recommendation so you can apply those principles in your own practice.

Who is a consultation for?

This service is designed for mental health clinicians who are treating OCD or related conditions and want additional clinical support.

You might be:

  • A therapist who sees OCD occasionally and wants more confidence using ERP

  • A clinician working with a particularly complex OCD presentation

  • A therapist who has completed ERP training but wants case-based support

  • A clinician who is unsure how to move treatment forward

  • An experienced therapist looking for another perspective on a challenging case

  • A clinician interested in developing stronger OCD conceptualization and treatment skills

You do not need to specialize in OCD to benefit from consultation.

What does a consultation look like?

Before our meeting, you'll have the opportunity to provide some background about the case or clinical question you'd like to discuss.

During our 60-minute meeting, we'll work through the issue together.

Depending on what you bring, we may:

1. Clarify the case conceptualization

We'll identify the obsessions, compulsions, avoidance, safety behaviors, and other factors maintaining the OCD cycle.

2. Identify the clinical sticking point

We'll look at what's getting in the way of progress and consider whether there are treatment behaviors—by the client or therapist—that may be unintentionally maintaining the problem.

3. Develop practical next steps

We'll discuss ERP strategies, treatment targets, behavioral experiments, communication strategies, or other evidence-based interventions that may be appropriate.

4. Answer your questions

Bring the questions you've been thinking about between sessions. Consultation is a collaborative space to think through the clinical decisions that aren't always straightforward.

My Approach to Consultation

My consultation style is collaborative, practical, and clinically focused. I won't simply give you a list of interventions. We'll work through the clinical reasoning behind them so that you can develop your own confidence and judgment as an OCD clinician.

A note about consultation

Consultation is an educational and professional service and does not establish a therapist-client relationship between Dr. Lippman and the individuals discussed during consultation.

Consultation does not replace the consulting clinician's clinical judgment, responsibility for patient care, or any supervision requirements applicable to their license, employer, or training program.

Confidentiality and appropriate de-identification of client information should be maintained when discussing cases.
